Beneath The Surface
SESSION 4
HANDS ON
Use this activity to demonstrate the difficulties of communication. Then contrast human communication with communication with the Lord. It's almost like telephone tag, but a little different. Split the group into 2 teams. Make each team form a long straight line of their own. The leader or someone not playing the game will provide a word/object (bike, flower, etc., etc.) then tell both people at the end of each line. They will then write it on the next person in line on their back with their finger. When it gets to the top. The person at the top draws it on a piece of paper and if right, gets a point.
Pair off the group and get them to stand facing
each other on opposite sides of a room. (The more "echoey" the better). Give
those standing on just one side, a card with a well-known phrase or saying
written on it. Make sure there is one short Bible Passage included. At your
command, those with the card have to shout the message on it across the room to
their partner who has to try and guess what they are saying. Stop after about a
minute or so.
Sometimes it is very difficult to listen for God when there is so much else
going on around us. Making time for God when things are quiet is better.
I THOUGHT I HEARD YOU SAY
Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays.
Søren Kierkegaard
Trouble and perplexity drive me to prayer and prayer drives away perplexity and trouble.
Philip Melanchthon
The value of consistent prayer is not that He will hear us, but that we will hear Him.
William McGill
Prayer gives a man the opportunity of getting to know a gentleman he hardly ever meets. I do not mean his maker, but himself.
William Inge
